Automatisierter/Mechanischer Edit... Bolzplatz: name->description

https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/113465893

Siehe: https://www.google.de/search?q=bolzplatz+schild

Also Sperren und Revert… Was da eventuell an Kollateralschäden passiert ist, kann keiner überblicken…

Jup.

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Tag%3Asport%3Dsoccer&type=revision&diff=2216318&oldid=2216253

https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/169679877

As in the changeset discussion, I apologise for speaking in English, but I would be embarrased if I had to speak in my broken German. Of course, feel free to reply to me in German.

I took the definition from Emilius123, whose description of a Bolzplatz closely matches the one on Wikipedia: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolzplatz. That is why I did not remove the word but only changed it to description=Bolzplatz. In contrast, a short while ago I also mass deleted name=Spielplatz from playgrounds (leisure=playground) in changeset 112988572, because the name was just a duplication of the tag leisure=playground.

Since we’re on the topic, may I conduct a similar edit for name=Fußballplatz and name=Fußballfeld on objects tagged with leisure=pitch & sport=soccer, since these are also descriptive names?

For anyone who is still curious, this is the Overpass query I used for my edit of name=Bolzplatz:

area(3600051477)->.searchArea;
(
nw["leisure"="pitch"]["name"~"^Bolzplatz$",i](area.searchArea);
);
(._;>;);
out meta;

I spent a good hour going through all different tags (yes, all of them) to find things that could be improved or could give an indication that editing the name to a description would not be correct. An interesting example was a pitch tagged with name:source=Sign, which I purged from my data so I would not accidentally edit it. An interesting thing I encountered and included in the changeset was that there were a few descriptions like “Bis 16 Jahren”, which I changed to max_age=16.

I hope this issue can be resolved after the fact so that the work you put into adding sport=soccer to “Bolzplatz” will not have been in vain. FYI StreetComplete also asks its users for leisure=pitch without sport=* tag for which sport(s) this pitch is designated. So, all those missing sport=* will get one eventually.

Here just a general comment not immediately related to this edit:
I urge you to pitch future edits of this kind beforehand according to the guidelines, so you will neither run into the trouble of stirring up concerns about the edit after the fact and be in a position where you have to justify why your edit was harmless (in your opinion). Also less stressful this way. Nobody is perfect, even if you think the edit was harmless you might have missed a nuance - this is one reason why we have the mechanical edit guidelines (and the proposal process, and the wiki talk pages and and and) - so to have several pairs of eyes that can acknowledge if there is an issue with this or not.

Of course we can wait for this to be mapped eventually, but since the data already exists it’s a trivial matter to query and edit it so we just have those tags already.
Benefits of such a mass edit:

  • The descriptive names can be removed
  • Missing sport=soccer tags can be added
  • Other tags (like descriptions related to max_age=*) can be verified
  • JOSM’s validator can pick up more possible issues

Fair enough. Other people have given me similar advice and as long as people don’t oppose mass edits purely for the sake of opposing all mass edits I am willing to comply.

In case someone wishes to edit the description=Bolzplatz tags I have tagged without reverting other changes, here’s a useful Overpass query for you to do that:

(
nw["description"="Bolzplatz"](user:"Friendly_Ghost");
nw["description:de"="Bolzplatz"](user:"Friendly_Ghost");
);
(._;>;);
out meta;
