Spherical storage tank

I want to design a spherical oil storage tank in 3D. I am working on a project in which I am working out the Shell refinery in Pernis, Netherlands in 3D.

What is the best way to do this? I know about the roof:shape=dome tag, but the whole building is a sphere, not just the roof.

I’d say there’s 2 part here, the roof part and the pillars part, so using building:part makes sense. using 2 building:part should do the trick.

That being said, it’s not really a building, more a man_made:storage_tank, but these are not rendered using building:parts (see https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=787470#p787470 for suggestions)

I would also say that “building:part” is the right approach. But there isn’t a golden rule.

try building:shape=sphere in combination with height and min_height (e.g tv-Tower, Berlin).

otherwise you can use horizontal slicing (e.g. brain-shaped ini-sphere, Hannover).

finally you can get familiar with 3D Model Repository.

Thanks! I wasn’t aware of the building:shape tag! Will this render in F4?

I don’t know. Just give it a try.

No, even if it were a building.

I had already suggested to define a “subpage” shape according to the roof shape. However, this was not pursued further.
