Depends on the selected map type. Only if you use "Routable Bicycle" you should follow those hints.

Sorry, I missed to say that, Routable Bicycle (Openfietsmap Lite) yes.
Thank you for the info.
Do you know if for https://extract.bbbike.org/ using Garmin (OSM) the behaviour is the same?

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

No, "Garmin (OSM) "is probably the mkgmap default style, which is not bicycle specific, but bbbike also offers maps with the openfietsmap style.

When you talk about style is the type of routing right?
Because, regarding looks I prefer this garmin version.

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

It's not only the look. The style also sets routing attributes. For example, the cycle maps typically will not allow to use motorways. They may route cars over cycle ways because car mode means "racing bike". So, if you want to use the routing functions for car traffic cycle maps are a bad choice. The maps are produced with program mkgmap, see http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/ for more details.

It seems this resource has not been updated in nearly half a year.  The latest data available is from 20 June 2020.

You have said what numerous people before you have already said. The maintainer does not respond to attempts to contact him so do not expect an update anytime soon.

Bbbike map is good alternative. Very similar render. For off-roading I use opentopomap.

Does anyone know the mkgmap parameters and TYP-file to create a map just like maps from this website?

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

I am very confused... I've downloaded OpenStreetMap data from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ twice before. Today I noticed that we had ventured "off the map" so I went back to that site to update the maps again. I did as I usually do, I took all the .img files and put them into my Garmin's "Garmin" folder. But, instead of the maps being updated, they're all GONE. Now there's no maps at all on my Garmin.

I see now talk about the site being abandoned or whatever, but why would that erase my maps completely instead of just giving me out-of-date maps? I don't know what I did and I don't know how to fix it...

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

Does anyone know what happened with Lambertus?

The garmin.openstreetmaps.nl is just working with country maps due to server problems.

but its like this since last year.

Does anyone know, if this might be fixed againß+?

Unfortunatly no. Lambertus was very active in the dutch community but he does not respond anymore and I don't think anyone knows him personally. So we don't know what happened and you can assume that this service will not be fixed.

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

I've tried to contact him recently when I got issues with the Wuppertal server (my maps are hosted there too) but unfortunately he didnt respond. Tried several mail adresses and even phone numbers. sad Eventually I contacted maintainer of the server in Wuppertal who could help me out,  but he also couldn't reach him anymore. So I assume we have to accept this service is stopped permanently.

However, there is an alternative: https://extract.bbbike.org/

Custom areas, weekly (or daily?) updates, lots of other styles, only garmin device img extracts though (no Basecamp versions).

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

Thanks for the response.

What i liked a lot, was the design it the bigger symbols like I know in Garmin cards.
I also use the "Freizeitkarte", and they are perfect, but its hard with the small symbols or Hotels etc...

I will take a look at the bbbike sides.

thanks.

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

And what I really miss, the selection of the tiles to create a own map.

For example, I travel Russia, Mongolia and the Stans, so I can create a map for this region, and don't need to download 10 countries and change them on the SD card

You will be pleased to know you can draw your own polygon shape to download a tailored area of your choice using Bbbike.org

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

I just tried and found out, this is just for the Device ( in my case Garmin )
I can download img data.

But it is not possible to download maps for software like basecamp.

That was the big bonus on the site from Lambertus.

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

You can connect your device to the computer, or create a virtual drive and view the maps from there with Basecamp. Another workaround is to use my osmcombiner tool to create one bigger installable map for Basecamp from several gmapsupp.img's
http://osm.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de/op … eadme.html This method has one big disadvantage, it lacks an overview map for lower scales, so you have to zoom in to view the map.

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

Unfortunately, with http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ death, I also found myself with the map problem for my Garmin Etrex.
Every time I find errors on my bike I go to correct them on OSM and then I love to find updated maps on Garmin.

I tried https://extract.bbbike.org/ but with the map size limitation it is not a viable alternative, I found http://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/ and am starting to try it.

I was also using the .nl maps before but now I have completely switched over to https://garmin.opentopomap.org/
At first it was a bit of an adjustment to get used to the color scheme but I'm loving it now. And more features.
