European neighborhoods changing name only online?

Dear all,

I am a journalist looking for neighborhoods/areas that have changed name virtually on Google Maps unbeknownst to residents.
There was a recent case in Buffalo, US, where Fruit Belt became Medical Park. I am trying to find out if something similar has happens somewhere in Europe. Does anyone know of any such instances?

Hi and welcome to OSM and the forum

I personally am not aware of such changes but I assume that this happens frequently.

You can always see which user performed the edit and contact him via OSM. Maybe he/she already left a note on the changeset with information why the name has been changed?

No, the OP is asking a general question: was there any such case in Europe that a map provider (be it Google or OSM or otherwise) was creating their own reality by changing place names.

I am sure there are others, but be aware that national mapping agencies can be just as bad!
