Empty yards/open areas that aren't car-parks

One more question that’s come up recently:

Is there a way to tag empty yards that have no obvious use, but have a clear presence on the ground?

A really clear example is this one here:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/648715644

It’s clearly within the boundary of the police station (which appears to be a converted house), but it’s just a gravel yard - not part of the bulding proper.

Another possible example in this image: https://imgur.com/a/PrKzj5y
(not on the map, since I don’t want to add another untagged area!).

Here the use is clear, but I can’t find a tag to suit it - I suppose you could call it a car park, but to me that suggests people come and go - I just want a general label for ‘flat nondescript paved area for whatever use the landowner decides’.

I thought ‘apron’ might work, but I see that’s for aeroplanes only…?

Thanks

Edward

Personally, I wouldn’t worry too much about making sure that every square centimeter is tagged with something. Maybe just leave it blank? If there’s a fence or a wall around it you could map that, and another option would be to map the whole area as “amenity=police” rather than just the building (I notice you’ve done this to an extent already by adding a site relation https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/9045978 ).

Thanks, followed your suggestion re a relation. https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/9080823
