This decision is a disrespect to Ukrainian society. The solution is false and makes it impossible to use services built on the use of OSM data. It has already caused judgments in society.

Так, але не так. Проблема DWG у тому, що вони не юристи. Вони бізнесмени. Достатньо подивитися на склад DWG. Причому бізнесмени некваліфіковані, тому що не можуть прораховувати ризики.
Брати однією рукою гроші як допомогу гуманітарним ініціативам ООН, а другою голосувати всупереч резолюції ООН - це пилити під собою гілку.

Можна створити відношення з type = boundary + boundary = administrative_claimed (це лише можливе значення) для міжнародно визнаних кордонів. Рендер може використовувати це відношення, а “звичайне” по on-the-ground ігнорувати.

I have openend a petition to the US senate to add DWG to the sanctioned organizations at the same time I’m going to seek legal advice how to sue DWG for disrespect of international law and for hurting the image of Ukrainian State. They are not a Russian organization and they will need to abide law.

So on Monday I can map ISIS boundary, North Cyprus, Kurdistan, South Ossetia and other separatist territory? As wikipedia precedent of Kievan Rus proved, consensus is of most importance.
So, is it a technical reason that OSM can’t mark disputed territories appropriately? That doesn’t look to be the case. DWG resolution clearly states that “administrative relation” means “on-the-ground control”. So this is not a technical reason, this is interpretation of what administrative relation means.
So what’s the issue here. The issue here is that while DWG agrees to keep disputed=yes on boundaries, there’s no technical solution to mark which countries dispute borders. So OSM data needs special treatment. And there’s no way to automate it.

DWG controls data issues. Another area of dispute is mapnik rendering. Mapnik rendering is discussed on GitHub. There’s currently no discussion on how disputed tag should be rendered.
The above is applicable to boundaries. Another issue is names. This is actually a technical issue of not being able to display names in several languages. The data issue here is whether to create several entities with different names or to diverge data. The rendering issue is that it is not feasible to render multiple version of raster maps. As long as osm doesn’t switch to vector tiles it would be impossible to display multiple versions of names.

Да нам собсно пох. Вы можете сколь угодно долго рисовать Крым в Украине, только чтобы вам туда съездить нужно пересечь российскую границу, а иностранцам (“мировому сообществу”, к которому вы аппелируете) нужна российская виза. Вот такова ground truth. Всё что у вас осталось - флешмобы с перепостами в OSM-дневниках.
Очень жаль что политика добралась до умов картографов.
Лично я считаю Крым в границах Украины подъ$бкой в ВАШ адрес - видеть можно, а вкусить нельзя.
PS: был в Крыму в 2005, хотелось плакать. Дороги не ремонтировались со времён распада СССР, власти всех созывов закрывали глаза на самозахваты земель, на скворечники в полях около Семферополя. Что творилось на Ай-Петри сложно объяснить рационально. Небо и земля по сравнению с 2017. Приезжайте, сами увидите.

Странно, вся Украина верит что Крым “окупован”, а жители Крыма и не в курсе. Получают российские пенсии, бесплатное медобслуживание. Но вы верьте и рисуйте фантазии, вам издалека лучше видно.
