Creating Black/White minimal map

Hi,

I’m wanting to know if it’s possible to create a minimal black/white streetmap in illustrator and if so, how? Ideally i’d like to import to illustrator.

I’m looking to create something similar to this

I would use QGIS and print to SVG or PDF.
It’d be reasonably easy to download SHP files created by Geofabrik and style them.
I suppose there are plenty of QGIS tutorials out there.
