Tagging after flood disaster in Terai 2017

Hi everybody.

First: This is terrrible tragody, we, mapper from outside of Nepal are very sad about this bad situation. Many people try to help. Last 4 days Nepal is still nr 3 in the international ranking list with the number of added elements. 21.08.2017 Nepal was nr 1!

Using this post I wish to say warmest welcome to the turbomapper Wladek Komorek from Poland (http://hdyc.neis-one.org/?W%C5%82adys%C5%82aw%20Komorek). Wladek is nr 6 in the worldwide ranking list. He mapped till last week only in Poland. Now he is doing mapping only in Nepal and already nr 16 in the ranking list:

Thank you Wladek!
Warmest thank you to all helper at this difficult time!

Edit: We (HeinzV and me) see a lot of bad mapped elements. I assume, there are totallz newbies they do mapping. This is nice, but at the end of the day it´s more work with bug correction than with new mapping of such areas. I would deeply recomendate to the HOT to introduce a block for people they do first time in their life mapping.

Also a high resolution aerial image layer of the disaster area’s would be nice.

That´s right dear Henke54!
Are we, international community ready to collect money for semi proffesional drone or better, UAV for Nepal?
something like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/FeiyuTech-Unicorn-Portable-Professional-Airplanes-Aerial-Photography-Mapping-System-RC-Fixed-Wing-Drone-UAV-unmanned-air/32811450624.html?spm=2114.search0304.4.11.7LyTYC

The company I work for collected already money for UAV used by KLL.

Would be a much more detailed image of the area’s →

than the images available now →

Yes, something like this: https://map.openaerialmap.org/#/30.389052629470825,59.85299049795602,19/1201212130013/597ef5f746e19904aab0a91c?_k=u03hk3

We have in Nepal the problem of clouds in mountains. Some areas can not be mapped because of clouds. We coould manage this problem having UAV with bigger range. (20 km and more)…

wow … that is a resolution where you almost can find, in a disaster area, someone who is burried under a rock or something. :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe starting a crowdfund ? →

More important is probably the quality of roads and the possibility to classify it. It will help to check not only how big are the damages are, but also make priorization of works.

The resolution is function of flight high. If one flight with this device higher, as well the resolution as distortion of terrain is less. And the data amount less.

The idea of crowdfunding is fascinating and I believe, this would work, but… where are here the Nepali? If nobody is using it, this makes no sense…
