Is it possible to change the symbol for shapefile points?

Finding it hard to make out shapefile points in JOSM. Especially when the shapefile isnt the active layer. Would be great if it was possible to change it to something more distinguishable.

Cheers

Save it as a GPX and change the display settings for the GPX layer

You probably would. You can also save it as OSM format, then create a MapCSS style, but it's best to test that, as I'm not sure how MapCSS, in an other than the active layer, behaves.
