OSM licence violation in Srbija (

This is good and bad news. The good news is that OSM becomes good enough in Srbija that commercial companies are using it. I found this map which is using OSM and add some own data in the Beograd region.
http://maps.infograd.rs/
They are not using current data but based on my estimation data from April +/- 2 months.
Check this area
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=45.1173&lon=21.2359&zoom=13&layers=M
West and southwest of Vrsac the farmland ended where formerly the Bing images ended. (it is better now). Also the ways at Vrsacke planine are excatly where I have added them before I have improved them during some hikes in late spring. You can find many examples and it quite clear that it is OSM.
The bad news is that it seems they claim own copyright on the map and do not credit OSM as it is required by ODbL (current licence) or CC-BY-SA (licence in April). Can one please double check the cyrillic licence text please? All OSM wants for the usage of the data is some credit like “map data OSM and contributors”.

Is there anyone who wants to contact them? Rather than being angry, mails like “It is great that you are using OSM. We are really happy that you find it helpful and we are constantly improving the map data. We would appreciate if you have some data that we can use to speed up the progress of our work. By the way, the usage of OSM requires nothing else than credit us. Can you please fix that?” are usually helpful can maybe they give us some data in return.

I checked text in Serbian. Yes they insist map is theri product and they are holding all copyright on contents of the site. I checked some items I added to OSM, and those items are also copied into Infograd map. This is clearly very rude violation of OSM license and copyright.

I would suggest that we try it friendly first. Maybe the have some data in return or can help us in another way. You never know…
If they ignore us, we still can bring it to the public…they have a Facebook page where we could start

This seems to be the contact info to me (hard to find):
http://www.totaldizajn.com/kontakt-total-dizajn.html

The site doesn’t seem too hostile to me, it’s basically yellow pages with maps you can download for offline usage for free. Let’s hope they are open-minded.
BTW I like that renderer for Belgrade. Nice 3D-buildings and good speed/usability.

Hello everyone
I think I can help You if you need to contact Infograd (http://maps.infograd.rs/)
I work with them, and yes, Circo, they are

and they are open minded.

BTW http://www.totaldizajn.com/kontakt-total-dizajn.html this is not their contact, this is other company (mine).

This approach suggested by SunCobalt sounds good to me:

Hello!
I’m Alex from Infograd management and probably I’m the one responsible for this misstep. Sorry
We’ll correct ASAP our agreement by adding something like “the map for Serbia (excluding Belgrade - that was our work) was provided by OSM community” according to OSM License Agreement.
Once again, we apologize. It was not intentionally.

Don’t worry and thank you for using OSM. Are you interested in some minor rendering bugs?

  • waterway=stream is usually very small but it is rendered very prominent
  • bridge=yes is always rendered like a major road, regardless if it is minor or major road. This also means that the bridge is still rendered although the minor road right and left disappears when zooming out
  • area=yes is not recognised on roads/pedestrian areas. Instead the outer perimeter is rendered as line

Please let me know if you need examples/screenshots

Thanks! I’ll send theese notes to our programmers. Maybe they’ll ask for some details and screenshots.

And one tip one the buildings. You seems to have the same issue with the 3D (or 2.5) effect that I had when experimenting with it. If buildings are in a specific angle, they look “stacked”

As said I had the same issue. It happens when the lower part (footprint) and the upper part (roof) are defined in the same rendering layer. If you changed that into two layers so that first the footprint is rendered and then the roof, it will look better. I have much less offset for my 3D effect but you see (same area) that there is not “stack” effect. Before I have changed it into two layers, it looked also “stacked”

By the way, if I would have to bet, I would say you are using Geoserver.

SunCobalt: no, it’s not Geoserver. We use our own software.
