Just the Streets
I would like to download streets only, no names, no parks, no icons.
I found the OSM data api...

However it has a whole heap of info I don't need. Is there a way to download just the bits I need?

XAPI is what you want. You can use it to select only certain elements, for example highway=* will select all highways (roads and paths). Make sure you keep your bounding box small or you'll get gigabytes of data. That might be what you want, I don't know, but if you do please be sure to read the section on usage.
