OSM and other free maps for Magellan

Hi,

at the moment the creation of OSM based maps for Magellan units is a quite complicated, manual process.
Magellan users will find the maps on the http://www.maps4me.net website for download. We are working on automation and hope to update the maps more frequently.

Will any of these also work on the Magellan Color model?

The old *.img format is not supported. (Sportrack / Meridian )

Most maps are in the *.imi format.
Supported GPS Units are:

  • eXplorist 500, 600, XL - but expect performance issues due to size and DEM
  • Crossover
  • Triton 400, 500, 1500, 2000 (small maps will work on 200 and 300 if they fit in memory (<20MB))
  • eXplorist 310, 510, 610, 710

I think OSM is best for the Magellan instead of other free maps. I like the OSM and its quite useful.

You cant use Geonames datas? It free

You might be interested, that Magellan offers Sockey a license to their commercial Map SDK (or at least something that can read OSM without external tools etc.)

There is a good soft for creating raster maps from online maps (osm mapnik, bing satellite image an other) for Magellan and some other navi soft.
It is a Mobile Atlas Creator (MOBAC)

In my opinion, OSM is superior to other free maps for the Magellan. I find the OSM to be pretty helpful.
