Looking for a GUI tool for database queries on OSM data

Dear members,

I’m new to the OSM community. So far, I have used OSM in the way of looking up maps on my computer or mobile from time to time… …and it works great.

Now I wonder if it is possible to do database queries on the OSM data. So, I don’t want to render maps, but use the OSM data with actions like filter or search for several attributes. So far, I know:
that you can download the OSM data for the different regions,
that there is a tool calls JOSM which seems to be an editor mainly but has a built-in filter method to show up only objects with a certain attribute,
and that there are various command line tools that I have no experience with yet.
The tool I’m looking for should be a bit more user-friendly than a command line tool, thus have a GUI. And some kind of export function in some way (not defined yet).

Do you have any good suggestions? I appreciate your help. Many TIA.

Cheers,

Gunner

Hi and welcome, Gunner!

As far as I know, there is no simple GUI based tool that comes near your aims.

Best web based GUI may be at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Taginfo

Or have a look at something like http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhpPgAdmin
