Success, thnx to all that came with suggestions. The mapsettoolkit really worked. I started the program and saw that a long list of debris (old map entries) was there. Only needed to select and uninstall these and then, ā¦ after startup of mapsource, I saw that the osm routable map of the Netherlands was there again.
Thank you, ajoessen and Beddhist!
I think Iām not mature enough to start compiling myself but I hope to reach this within some months!
Indeed the ātruckā features of my Dezl look like they are quite detailed: initially one enters truck height/width/weightā¦ and the restrictions leading to a detour are then identified, criterion by criterion, before the complete traject is drawn; for instance for height I get a screen locating the āfaultyā bridge and its height limitation, etc.
I thought this corresponded to some equivalent to a āmaxheight =ā¦ā tag.
As some of you know Iām working on a new version of the website where it will be possible to provide multiple types of maps with worldwide coverage.
A first beta version is available at: [[removed for the time being, send me an email if you want to test]]
For now Iām settling on a generic routable and a routable bicycle map and hope to expand later with a nautical map as well. Please test it and tell me what you think. Ideas for improvements are very welcome, but donāt complain about the styling unless you have actual code to contribute: I suck at CSS and accept it.
Whatās new and improved:
Support for more then one type of map.
Better detection of existing maps thus less need to fill in your email address and more ādownload nowā situations.
Easy tileselection: Select tiles quickly using click-drag, but the country selection is also still available.
Known problems:
I wanted to include the stylesheet from Bedhist and Ligfietser for the generic routable map, but somehow my script isnāt including it yet. Iām working on it.
Help files/texts are out of date.
If you visit the page you might run into temporary bugs, Iām actively working on it.
Last request: Please donāt spread this URL to other forums etc. It is a very temporary URL and will break soon. I donāt want people end up confused and complaining about 404 errors later.
The page on my website you are linking to is obsolete; the tasks described there can be done with JaVaWa GMTK.
Nowadays nobody uses (or should use) RoadTrip on the Mac anymore; better rename it āInstaller for BaseCamp (Mac OS X)ā or just āInstaller for Mac OS Xā.
The page is pretty much unusable in Internet Explorer (as we all know); this is caused mainly by the large number of rectangles drawn on the map. I did a test with Leaflet, and that works at a decent speed in IE9 (IE8 is too slow).
Except for the first one these points apply to the regular garmin.openstreetmap.nl site too.
Type file name (openfietsmap_lite.typ) is too long
Styles are the default styles, not my openfietsmap style.
Better test this first in private with a few people.
Iām pretty sure Iāve seen the typ file in action, so Iām not sure why you think itās too long?
Edit: typ filename is now shortened.
I thought that this topic was private enough, but opinions vary apparently.
Well ok, Iāll remove the link and wait for your comments. In the mean time Iāll try to implement Leaflet, but time the coming days will be in short demand.
The typ file works in Mapsource but not on the GPS (8 characters max, like Javawa said).
More important is that you didnt use my openfietsmap style files, so this map is the same as the generic one except with the OFM typ file (which makes no sense).
I could help with that, if you want. Iām not saying Iām an expert on Leaflet, but I experimented a lot with it.
I saw you use a kml file to load the rectangles. Leaflet doesnāt have kml support built in (yet). One way to solve that is to use geoJSON; or use an external kml script (but I didnāt test that last one).
Thanks for your offer JaVaWa, I was already wondering if KML is supported.
I can change the script that outputs the KML to geoJSON and would appreciate it if you can have a look at the website. All the map code is in openfietsmap_lite.js. Iāve added some extra comments. In the mean time the website can continue ot use OpenLayers as it has been for years, that way I can focus on bringing this live and optimize later.
I hope my coding is not too incompatible with Leafletā¦
Forget to mention you might use one of the latest mkgmap versions, it has some improvements, like more languages in the installer (Dutch, German and Spanish) and it supports now gmapsuppās > 2 Gb (Dont know if your regions are that big though).
That might be a good thing. If I understand correctly, on April 1 the database purge started to remove data from providers who didnāt accept the new licensing terms. Therefore, post 4/1/2012 data should be less complete.
They still havent changed the license so the data is still under cc-by-sa license.
The last update of the demo version of the custom site with the cycling map is from 28/04 (just add index_new.php after the regular url).
