Haiti Search & Rescue team using Garmins

I’ve been in touch with the the guy who is out in Haiti using Garmin units in his Search & Rescue team. The one who wrote this great message: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:WikiProject_Haiti#Fairfax_County_Urban_Search_.26_Rescue_Team_Using_Garmin_downloads

I think he could probably do with some Garmin help so I’m going to point him in the direction of this forum. He’s up and running, but he’s trying learn more about the process for working with MapSource on windows, which I dont know much about.

I notice there’s a “Mapsource Installer” feature listed on the downloads comparison: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download . Guess It would be good if somebody offered this on a daily update for Haiti.

The “All in one Garmin map” http://dev.openstreetmap.de/aio/haiti/, which is already linked from
the Haiti map download page, includes a Mapsource Installer with the name OSM-AllInOne-HT-bmap.exe.
it is updated every half hour or so.

Just downloading and runing it on a Windows machine will install the map for use in MapSource.
It shows up in MapSource with the name “OSM-AllInOne-HT-bmap” in the map selection menu.

If anyone else wants to create installers it is easy with the --nsis option to mkgmap and
using the NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System). These Windows installers can even be built on
LInux.

I can help out if an alternative to the the linked map is needed for any reason.
