Big bodies of water not blue

Hi all-

On the maps I’ve made around the United States, it seems that large bodies of water (like the Great Lakes) are not colored blue, like rivers and smaller lakes, etc. I’m guessing it’s because something like Lake Michigan isn’t defined as a lake per se, but formed by a number of various coastlines. Is there a good solution to proper tagging and coloring some enormous body of water? I’m guessing I would need to really trace around something like Lake Michigan and create a single closed way and define that as the lake, adding the appropriate attributes. Does that sound right?

Thanks,

Tacho

The Finns are experts in mapping large bodies of water: they mostly use multipolygons as I understand it. You could check out how one of their lakes is mapped and/or download one of Marko’s* Finland maps and see if the lakes render properly on your device.
