Where can i get free geodata.
Hello,
I started to be interested of GIS developement. I would like to write simple map renderer application which takes geo data and convert it to map images. I have exerience in developement, but i am completely new in geoinformatics. Can you tell me sth about geo data file formats ? Where can I get free geo data (street coordinates, POI, ets) ?

take some weeks and read the wiki at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org! :-)
And there are now at least two books in English language about OpenStreetMap, there you can get a good basis of knowledge.
