I swear the servers are running slow

I swear the servers are running slow. No matter what site I look at that uses Openstreetmaps, the tiles all just slowly come into place. It's been that way for a few weeks already now.

My question is, of the hundred charts on https://hardware.openstreetmap.org/
is there a better way, to see in one simple view, the word "slow" anywhere, proving that I'm not out of my mind? Thank you.

Sure, more demand means thinner resources. I'm just looking for a simple monitoring site that just has three colors. Red yellow and green. And I'm expecting to see the yellow color. Thanks.

Re: I swear the servers are running slow

The tiles I see are coming in fast, but that does not mean anything.

It depends on which tile server you are using (you have to check your network traffic for that).
So I'm surprised you say "no matter what site". Did you try the other layers on osm.org? Did you try some alternative layers on http://gk.historic.place/historische_ob … index.html ? Are they all slow?

Those layers have different providers, so are served from different hosts. If they are all slow, I assume the problem is with your computer or internet provider.

Re: I swear the servers are running slow

It seems at least for me, from ~02:00UTC to ~8:00UTC the tile servers for openstreetmap.org are very slow. So slow that I've stopped doing edits on OSM and wait until it gets faster.

If I access another site that uses another tile server or g**gle, they are fine, but doesn't help me understand the current OSM state sad

I feel they are running slow too. Have been noticing it for some time now. Other sites load as usual. Noticed slow on iPad and MacBook Pro both.

Re: I swear the servers are running slow

Look at the long list of tile caches on https://hardware.openstreetmap.org/
You really need to know which one you are hitting to know which one is slow.
And maybe you are hitting a server on the other end of the world instead of one close to you.

It depends on the tile server. Depending on where you are in the world there may be a tile layer that's up to date with OSM edits and can keep up with current demand (where I am in the UK I know of at least one - I run it!). You can of course create your own - though you may prefer to use one that already exists as of course that's less work for you.

If you say where you are people might be able to suggest an OSM-based tile server that might be more able to keep up with demand than whatever OSM is using as a tile cache for your country for "standard" tiles.

Re: I swear the servers are running slow

Lots of

502 Bad Gateway

nginx

Sometimes from
https://a.tile.openstreetmap/
https://b.tile.openstreetmap/
https://c.tile.openstreetmap/
and sometimes the are OK 200.
No real pattern.
Anyway the result, firefox or chromium, is a screen with grey tiles intermixed with good tiles.

Re: I swear the servers are running slow

... and the suggestions that IvanSanchez gave there (essentially, "use a different tile server") are still valid!

If you'd like any help following that advice please ask; but coming back to say "I've still got a problem" when you haven't followed previous suggestions isn't really a fixable problem.

Re: I swear the servers are running slow

Mainly I want the
https://www.openstreetmap.org/ ...
links I have shared all over the Internet over the years to still work satisfactorily .
No I don't recall all the places I shared them.
I just hope people clicking them don't end up with 50% etc. grey tiles.

Re: I swear the servers are running slow

I also feel on several occasions that tile loading is slow. I see this a lot in JOSM, where the display of tiles in the download box all of a sudden does not work anymore. If I then switch to a different tileset (e.g. cycling) then I get tiles immediately. Then switch back to the openstreetmap (mapnik) layer and no tiles, not even after waiting a minute or more.
