I’m new to open street maps, and I’m really interested in getting in touch with some of the lead contributors for ‘open street maps,’ around Canberra (Australia), as we’re interested in sharing our map data with OSM.
I work for the ACT Government, and we have access to a vast array of map data.
Could you please let me know if you know of any people I could get in contact with to discuss this further?

Ummmm, you have the data, but do you have the right to put it into OSM? Has the original source of the mapping data issued it under a license that makes it OK for you to do this, or granted you the appropriate permission? See https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Legal_FAQ#2._Contributing.
If you’re OK as far as licensing goes, then it might be worth asking over in the Australia forum https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewforum.php?id=24

I’ve recently been collating open data in Australia and getting the licensing statuses in as green a state as I can.

If you sort by Jurisdiction you can see the ACTmapi team has completed the required waiver on top of their CC BY 4.0 license so from a licensing point of view we are good to incorporate ACTmapi data.
I sent off a separate waiver to the dataACT team which mostly covers TAMS datasets but also from a few other ACT Government agencies publishing on dataACT. I sent this too SpatialData@act.gov.au and cdo@act.gov.au on 27th Feb 2018. We’d need that waiver completed in order to use CC BY 4.0 licensed data in OSM for the reasons at https://blog.openstreetmap.org/2017/03/17/use-of-cc-by-data/.
Once we have the licensing sorted we can move into discussions for how we can improve what’s already in OSM with the available ACT Government datasets. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Guidelines has a good overview of what the process is to bring 3rd party datasets into OSM.
Canberra certainly isn’t empty in OSM so in my view the first step is to actually compare the two datasets to see identify areas where they are different. I think that will help us shape the next steps. Whether it be by selectively importing missing or incomplete data or adding notes for on the ground contributors to verify on the ground.
I’m experimenting with this at https://github.com/andrewharvey/opendata4osm but it’s still early days, and of course everyone else is free to either work on their own independent efforts here or we can try to collaborate.
I know Kristy is quite interested in this space too, I’m happy to catch up in person to discuss further or jump on a call, but of course I don’t want to exclude any other interested parties or members of the community so if we did that I’d like to keep it open to others.

Hi aharvey, just wondering if you have received a response regarding the waiver you sent to dataACT?
Transport Canberra and City Services would like to contribute to the OSM community. As part of our contribution we will aim to update OSM data and provide datasets wherever possible.
Sorry to sound pedantic, but it is “OpenStreetMap”, all other methods to write it are wrong.
