How to Control the level of detail at a certain zoom level

I was wondering how I can control the level of detail at a certain zoom level when downloading maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/?

You only have the Least … Most options on your Garmin.

Determining how much detail is shown at each level is a bit of a black art and will be determined by the creator of the Garmin maps. There is some advice in the mkgmap manual: but this only really applies if you are making your own maps.

You cannot do that at that level. But your device may allow you to change the detail level. On my Oregon 600, I select Settings - Maps - Extended - Details (not sure about the “correct” English menu titles, my device is in German). Then you can select between 5 detail levels.
