OSM go "Hello 3D world"

Hallo / Hellow (English translation below)

Fragen? Lob? Nur zu!

Do you really want my non-professional translation to English for 3D topics?
I got the feeling, most of the active users or coders are German. Am I wrong?
Anyway, this is it:

May be, you have read about “OSM go” in the Weekly-Report.
It’s a 3D renderer/simulator for OSM- and optional data.
It is not meand to do a realistic presentation (at last not now)
but a symbolic visualisation of possibly all data, contained in the OSM database.
More info is in the Wiki https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_go
as Twitter feed https://twitter.com/OSM__go
and in my diary https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/-karlos-/diary
Now I also would like to say “hello” in the forum.

If POIs are close together or stacked in levels,
at indoor tagging or underground, 3D may be more representable
and could help to check the OSM data.

I would be glad to get OSM test reports, ideas or even wishes.
The functionality and optic is still adaptable.
Who likes to join an “Adviser” to topics like railway, navigation etc.?

“OSM go” isn’t ready at all. A good part of types for ways and areas are done.
Now, the most important nodes are coded. But there are bad gaps also:
I urgently need help or a solution for multi poliigones. Roof shapes are to be done.

Questions? Plaudits? Go on!

Welcome on board, -karlos-!

Wrong assumption. Please use English in the 3D forum.

Do you cooperate with OSMBuildings.org? Why didn’t you start from his code?

All right, may it be English

We are in contact and talked about it and considered a merge/refurbishing in the future
Jan uses WebGL directly, I use the easy Three.js I am used to (wish may be slower but still works up to now)
He does some closed source Tag decoding on his server (I may have a server some day to)
OSMBuildings does not render Highways or Landuse but uses “alien” 2D tiles

How can I zoom in and zoom out? I didn’t succeed in zooming with a mouse wheel.

Good morning

“Zoom” is what I expect for the wheel to.
In 2D, zooming and moving-closer (down to paper) is the same effect.
In 3D, I prefer moving, zooming has side effects to rotating and sliding and the view gets “flat”, less “3D-ish”
In the default Inspect mode, OSM go should to “move in view direction”, doesn’t it? (Segway mode elevates)

You may really zoom by the key Z and un-zoom by shift-Z.
Is the description in the Wiki page wrong or to cryptic?

I think navigating in 3D should be intuitive enough, so no documentation is necessary for simple navigation in 3D.

Mouse wheel is used for zooming in Blender, 3D mode of Google Maps, OSMBuildings.org, F4 Map, etc

I’d expect zooming with the mouse wheel from any 3D application.

@vvoovv So we do agree about zooming? Also about the difference between “2D zooming” and “3D zooming”?
I just startet Blender and checked: Its exactly what OSM go does in Inspect mode:
3D zooming = moving the viewpoint ahead.

My experiences are different about 3D navigation. Many people (not you and my) have problems:
Do I move the scene/object (as in Blender) or do I move my avatar (as in games)?
Which mouse/keys are for turn which for slide? Which for elevate? But that would be an extra tread, wouldn’t it?

I just found a little gap: turning in OSM go is always “like Avatar”, will be changed.
