GPS tracks with Pocket PC

Need some help / info, searched the forum and the net, didn't find anything specific, or that made sense. I have an HP iPAQ 2215 PocketPC with a GlobalSat BC-307 Compact Flash Card GPS. What software (free) do I need to record gps tracks and then load them in JOSM for editing. Has anyone had experience with these items. Thanks for any help.

Glen

edit: Ok, I get this info from Mapopolis, my map navigation program. Is it useful for anything other than plotting manually. It's in text format.

Re: GPS tracks with Pocket PC

You might need to see if gpsbabel can convert that format into GPX. GPX is the track format you can load into JOSM. Alternatively, see if Mapopolis can also output an NMEA format dump, which JOSM will also read.

For tracking/mapping with a WinCE based PDA, I use http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Osmtracker. If you rely on navigation, that will not help, as osmtracker is purely a mapping tool, and not a navigation software.

Also recommend using OSMTracker - it is purpose designed for logging OSM data, and you'll find a few useful features.  Wites GPX files for opening in JOSM.  It is much easier than trying to convert files.

I use it on an iPAQ Data Messenger, and it works very well.

Re: GPS tracks with Pocket PC

Ldp & Andy,

Thanks so much. That was exactly what I needed. Took a bit to get it going, forgot to install .Net Compact, after that it worked perfectly.
