Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: URL REMOVED
I wanted to report an issue/problem with producing a map for a Garmin device. The size produced on the website for "Selected Tiles" is not accurate enough. For instance in this case, the reported size on the web site is 3768MB. However, the size of gmapsupp.img file is 4.17GB. It may not be a large difference, but the problem is that the SD card for my Garmin device must be formatted as FAT32, and the file size limit for FAT32 is 4GB, and therefore i cannot put the generated file on my Garmin device. Is there any way to know more accurately the size of the selected tiles, in order to stay within that size limit?
Also, i tried a second time, by selecting fewer tiles (guessing a bit about what size would be produced). This time the web site reported size of selected tiles as 3230MB. However, this time, i got "Error, too many tiles selected, please limit your selection...". However, this time the selection is smaller than it was the first time.
So, not sure what to make of that error message since the number of tiles selected this time is lower.
I was trying to get all of US and Canada on one device, but apparently it will not all fit, so now trying to get as close as possible to that, while staying under 4GB in file size. Any suggestions?
Thank you for any suggestions.
Tom

Anders Hedelund Me too!!
Hi Lambertus,
I have been a contributer to OSM and a user of your maps for a few years now. Thank you for providing such a great service.I have noticed that the download site has not been updated since 29 March 2015. Is there a problem? Any idea when the site will be updated again? I'm sure I'm not alone in asking this question. Just looking forward to having my latest edits (and those of others) available on my GPS.
Thanks again for providing this valuable resource.
Kind regards,
Shaun

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: URL REMOVED
The map updates stopped temporarily since Google decided to stop their Google Code project which hosted the stylesheets for this service. The stylesheets have been moved to Github and renamed by Ligfietser. This change needed to be incorporated in the scripts that render and combine the Garmin maps for which I didn't have time since last month was a very busy period for me. However, the changes have been made this week on the special holiday Kingsday here in the Netherlands and a new update has been running since. I expect the new maps to appear around Saturday.

If I recall correctly, the size estimate comes from the actual individual images. The combining of the individual tiles adds a bit of extra bytes for the overview map and such (about 10% apparently). I'll try to add the estimated gmapsupp size to the site as well.

@Ligfietser,
Can you post a link to those style sheets? I like the new rendering of natural=wood very much but I'm having trouble re-creating it on my maps. Can you also supply the TYP file icons/images?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: URL REMOVED
I don't seem to be able to get the gmapsupp.img from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ today.
I can download directly (or use the make option) an osm_...zip file but it just has the numeric tile .img files but no gmapssupp.img suitable for loading directly onto my etrex sdhc card. Is this a known problem which is being fixed?
By the way a great thanks for this service which I use regularly - until now :-(

same problem here for the second time - had this problem 2 or 3 weeks before.
First available download contained only the tiles - tried to build a custom map for two times: got only tiles and gmapsupp-files of 22KB(!)

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: URL REMOVED
Thanks for the links. Those are not the same problems though. The last one looks like php crashed because there is no buildlog.txt at all. With others Mkgmap seems to have given up because of 'exit exception'. I've added extra logging and hope it will reveal something.
BTW. I've just browsed through the maps and the failure rate is (guesstimate) far below 10%.

This is only a secondary problem. Mkgmap fails to generate a gmapsupp.img and, because in the same step the .nsi script is generated, the subsequent attempt to generate the Windows Installer fails because the .nsi script is missing. So the root cause is something in Mkgmap, unfortunately the extra logging does not contain the Java stack trace. Looks like I need to include more into the logging then stdout, so I'll explicitly add stdout and stderr as well.
Please keep posting the links to failed maps please! ![]()

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: URL REMOVED
Still no luck:
http://sfs4.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de/g … 0c51373f1/
The osm_generic_gmapsupp.zip files is there but 22 byte is not a very detailed map.

Same story:

Edit:
My two submitted requests where similar in content, and it seems that the machinery gave me to identical links to maps generated May 19th (likely generated on my earlier request).

Re: Worldwide routable Garmin maps: URL REMOVED
Thanks! The better logging provides a clue to the problem this time:
Time started: Tue May 26 10:40:45 CEST 2015
SEVERE (Main): 2000.typ: file 2000.typ doesn't exist
Number of MapFailedExceptions: 0
Exiting - if you want to carry on regardless, use the --keep-going option
Number of ExitExceptions: 1
Time finished: Tue May 26 10:40:45 CEST 2015
Total time taken: 409ms
Edit:
The directory "mapnik" is deprecated so that needs to be fixed. For now I worked around this by adding a symlink. This should be fixed now (on the sfs4 server).
Edit:
Yes, it looks like this problem is solved now. ![]()

David, that is not possible, the maps are only available in English.
