Extracting street names from a small selected area
Hello there.
I'm not an experienced osm user, but I was wondering if you could make a program as follows:
- select an area on the map (limited to one city)
- extract only the street names of that selection (performance is a priority)
- save them in xml, or any other simple text format
I want it to be as simple as possible, if it's possible, of course 
So basically I want the to modify the existing area selection & exporting functionality of osm and narrow it down to just searching for streets.
This description is probably not sufficient, so feel free to ask more questions.

There is a user called okilimu, you can contact him via http://forum.openstreetmap.org/profile.php?id=5171 or http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/okilimu
He is processing a comparison of official street lists obtained by local authorities or other sources with Streets that are in the OSM database that belong to a certain polygon describing the boundary outline of a place.
Maybe he has some hints for you.
