Exporting Layers

Hello,

I’m new to using osm outside of potlatch. What I need to do is essentially be able to export a map into a pdf or illustrator file with only certain layers shown. I would like to keep the map in vector graphics. I only need the roads (and their names), and not really anything else. Is there a way to do this?

Thank you for your help,
Robinson

have a look to gary68’s Mapgen… Maybe it’s something for you…

There are no “layers” in OSM (besides from the Layer-Tag), so if you like to have a map showing only specific features you have to generate it by yourself.
If your German is good enough you can also try http://www.openstreetbrowser.org/

Also have a look at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Exporting_to_Adobe_Illustrator

Yes, layers was the wrong term I believe. So there is no way to use Potlatch to export the map data with only certain tags?

Thanks for your help I’ll try those suggestions.

  1. You cannot save any data to your own PC via Potlatch.

  2. Look at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Xapi

  3. Or load the complete data in an editor like JOSM or Merkaartor, delete all unneded elements and save the lokal data in *.osm format.

Be careful with this method! DO NOT ACCIDENTIALLY HIT “UPLOAD”! This will delete the objects from the database to. Just ignore the warning about unsaved data and close JOSM.

Since I needed the same functionality I started programming an application to do just that. It’s nowhere near finished yet, but you might want to check if I added exporting yet
