Starting a new project

I am starting to map part of the state of Nayarit Mexico. Specifically the municipality of Compostela and the towns near La Peñita.

I want to get other involved so I think I need to strart a project, set up a talk group etc. Is there an explanation of how to do that somewhere here?

If not please help me with some suggestions.

Johan

Still need a bit of help here.

I’m not sure what exactly you mean by starting a new project, but anyway:
You could start by creating a WikiProject page. You can have a look at the list of projects for countries here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mapping_projects
You could create new project based on one of them. Maybe it could be a sub-project of the Mexico project: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Mexico
Also see the wiki help if you need more instructions for creating and editing a page there: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Wiki_Help

And you can try contacting any local mappers to ask them to get involved. You can use the Talk page on the wiki project for discussions if you want.

I don’t think its worth creating a mailing list / forum section for a small local area, unless there’s quite a lot of mapping activity and discussion there. I think it would be better to use a countrywide list to start with.
Though checking now, there doesn’t seem to be a Mexico mailing list or forum, it might be worth getting one created. Instructions for requesting a mailing list here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mailing_list#Requests_for_New_Lists
Or for a forum section, ask in the “Feedback” section on this forum.
