Worldwide routable Garmin maps: URL REMOVED

The only file on the card is /Garmin/gmapsupp.img

I use Linux Mint BTW.

Sorry I don’t understand completely. The same map loaded into Basecamp for mac shows the cities (even searchable), which il not the case for the search in the Garmin: many cities appear in the map but are not searchable.
I have a Nüvi 2595 , is it the reason? What should I do? Thank you!

Daniele

I downloaded the Oman map, searched for Ibra on my old nüvi 310 and found it. So your nüvi might have an issue. Dont know what you could do about it, sorry.

I’ve been watching the date of the Open Street Map version used to derive the Garmin images, but it has not yet changed from 29th March.

HOWEVER this morning I tried doing a repeat download of the same UK image. Looking at the file properties, it’s exactly the same size as the one which wouldn’t work for me but the date is later. Investigating further from a Linux terminal,

dave@Tosh-NB520:~/Downloads/Garmin/NormalMaps$ cmp gmapsupp.img\ (2) gmapsupp.img\ (3)
gmapsupp.img (2) gmapsupp.img (3) differ: byte 11, line 1
dave@Tosh-NB520:~/Downloads/Garmin/NormalMaps$

So the image file has been updated, and now, IT WORKS!

Hi Lambertus,
I have been a contributer to OSM and a user of your maps for a few years now. Thank you for providing such a great service.

I have noticed that the download site has not been updated since 29 March 2015. Is there a problem? Any idea when the site will be updated again? I’m sure I’m not alone in asking this question. Just looking forward to having my latest edits (and those of others) available on my GPS.

Thanks again for providing this valuable resource.
Kind regards,
Shaun

I wanted to report an issue/problem with producing a map for a Garmin device. The size produced on the website for “Selected Tiles” is not accurate enough. For instance in this case, the reported size on the web site is 3768MB. However, the size of gmapsupp.img file is 4.17GB. It may not be a large difference, but the problem is that the SD card for my Garmin device must be formatted as FAT32, and the file size limit for FAT32 is 4GB, and therefore i cannot put the generated file on my Garmin device. Is there any way to know more accurately the size of the selected tiles, in order to stay within that size limit?

Also, i tried a second time, by selecting fewer tiles (guessing a bit about what size would be produced). This time the web site reported size of selected tiles as 3230MB. However, this time, i got “Error, too many tiles selected, please limit your selection…”. However, this time the selection is smaller than it was the first time.

So, not sure what to make of that error message since the number of tiles selected this time is lower.

I was trying to get all of US and Canada on one device, but apparently it will not all fit, so now trying to get as close as possible to that, while staying under 4GB in file size. Any suggestions?

Thank you for any suggestions.
Tom

Anders Hedelund Me too!!

The map updates stopped temporarily since Google decided to stop their Google Code project which hosted the stylesheets for this service. The stylesheets have been moved to Github and renamed by Ligfietser. This change needed to be incorporated in the scripts that render and combine the Garmin maps for which I didn’t have time since last month was a very busy period for me. However, the changes have been made this week on the special holiday Kingsday here in the Netherlands and a new update has been running since. I expect the new maps to appear around Saturday.

If I recall correctly, the size estimate comes from the actual individual images. The combining of the individual tiles adds a bit of extra bytes for the overview map and such (about 10% apparently). I’ll try to add the estimated gmapsupp size to the site as well.

Wauw, thx a lot…

@Ligfietser,
Can you post a link to those style sheets? I like the new rendering of natural=wood very much but I’m having trouble re-creating it on my maps. Can you also supply the TYP file icons/images?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave, you can find them here: https://github.com/ligfietser/mkgmap-style-sheets
Icons you can find here: http://www.sjjb.co.uk/mapicons/contactsheet

I don’t seem to be able to get the gmapsupp.img from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ today.
I can download directly (or use the make option) an osm_…zip file but it just has the numeric tile .img files but no gmapssupp.img suitable for loading directly onto my etrex sdhc card. Is this a known problem which is being fixed?

By the way a great thanks for this service which I use regularly - until now :frowning:

Please post the link to your map. Thanks!

same problem here for the second time - had this problem 2 or 3 weeks before.

First available download contained only the tiles - tried to build a custom map for two times: got only tiles and gmapsupp-files of 22KB(!)

Thanks for the links. Those are not the same problems though. The last one looks like php crashed because there is no buildlog.txt at all. With others Mkgmap seems to have given up because of ‘exit exception’. I’ve added extra logging and hope it will reveal something.

BTW. I’ve just browsed through the maps and the failure rate is (guesstimate) far below 10%.

Thanks for your help Lambertus!
