As mentioned in the article there, Wikimedia donated 20,000 € so all people expect a good outcome. The guy has a very good reputation. He wrote
- Osmium an OSM framework
- TagInfo (the tag statistic when you look at a tag in the OSM wiki)
- Tirex The tile rendering system used by OSM
and many other things
