I have recently added my local FabLab <http://www.fab-lab-ellesmereport.org/> to the map. I have tagged it as amenity=community_centre which seems the most appropriate. It seems to me that community facilities are quite important and should appear in Standard. Presumably this is by design rather than an oversight. Is there a mechanism to seek a change in policy.
