How Much RAM Required for Non-Slim osm2pgsql Import?

What I’ve read leads me to believe that an osm2pgsql import without --slim will be faster, assuming I have enough RAM.

I have a dual-processor Xeon system (12 cores) with 96GB of RAM and non-SSD disks.

1: Do I have enough RAM to import the whole world without --slim?

2: Around what percentage should I expect import time to differ by without --slim?
