Worldwide routable Garmin maps: URL REMOVED

Please bear in mind that every GPS device could have a bad GPS signal and therefore calculate its position way off from the spot where you actually are. This could have caused those unwanted detours, especially on motorways with different lanes and lock on road on. So one should always double check the road signs when riding or driving when the Garmin suggest you should go to direction X, NEVER follow its advice without thinking.

The firmware is the same that I used with the previous data file (one month old).

Only the OSM map was checked.

All the usual avoidances values checked, nothing changed from the last file I downloaded.

The problem is there even if I “simulate” the route when gps is off.

The problem is even worse than what I initially reported using the osrm routing.
After the detour and the “u-turn” the route is not what is in the osrm link I posted. The route leaves the highway and follows an almost straight line to destination but there are no straight roads. I suspect the file is corrupt. I’ll try the download it again and I’ll let you know.

Thank you
maxx

Hi, my name is Robert;

I´m gone through this process and modified the names (computer/device/folder).
At the next installation of a custom map this renamed custom map was overwritten and did not work (it was not listed in Mapsource) anymore.
Then I found out, that in the windows registry (W7/64) the key - after the renaming - still is “OSM generic routable” (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\OSM generic routable). And so the new installation overwrites the previous installation.

I also renamed the registry keys in uninstall information, then everything looked good: in Mapsource and in W7 everywhere was “my map name”.
But at the next installation of a custom map “my map name” disappeared from Mapsource and a new “OSM generic routable” was shown. The funny thing is, after deinstalling this new “OSM generic routable”, “my map name” was back again!?!

I dont know wat goes wrong here, but for me it is not possible to install more than one custom map…

Robert

Would it be possible to ask for download of entire continent? In my particular case I am looking for a South America map, currently downloading Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile as separate maps, but have problems sending them to the device as they become too large. There are extremely much duplicated information in such a selection, i.e. Brazil also include most of Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, a large part of Suriname, Guiana, a good portion of Venezuela, Colombia and Peru. Argentina almost all of Chile, a large part of Paraguay and Uruguay and some of Bolivia and Brazil, Chile extends somewhat into Argentina and a little bit in Peru.

My map installer complains of disc space as each of the maps I try to install combined are a little larger than the memory available, but I believe that combined if you ignore the duplicated tiles there should be enough space.

Another question is, for devices with limited memory, or people needing to update frequently on slow lines, what about smaller divisions, doesn’t North America and Europe allow per-state or per-region downloads? What about Brazil and Argentina, would it be possible to download these in separate pieces for each state?

Why not download a custom map containing all the tiles you need?

Hi,
Entering email Adress not possible on the site?

Thanks for the report, I can confirm it doesn’t work at the moment. Investigating…

Where is the download or request link? I get as far as the step below but can’t find any request or download button?

Help: Using country pre-selections Request your map or download it directly:
(Make a selection first)

I see the correct tiles are selected but how do I request these?

I am just trying to get a routable map of the Dominican Republic on my computer (mapsource).

Lambertus, the web page is broken. The message “Make a selection first” does not disappear after choosing a country or individual tiles.

Thanks all above for the reports. I think the problem has been fixed now.

Try clearing your browser cache (ctrl-F5) if you still experience the problem. Please leave a message if the problem still persists after that.

Yes, that is all good now.

Shouldn’t that be a “force page reload” (Shift-reload or Shift-F5), depending on browser?

I don’t know, ctrl-F5 has always worked for me

While the problem may be fixed it is taking forever to get a custom map downloaded.

I selected the tiles and entered my email address and was told I was number 7 in the que and the wait was 45 minutes, that was 6 hours ago and now I just checked and I am now up to #2 in the que and no time available.

Is the server involved by any chance osm2.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de?

edit:
I just read an email informing me that the RAID-array of one of the other servers was degraded (sfs4). Maybe that contributed to the long wait.

Yes it was

http://osm2.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de

Ok. There is a problem with this server (memory leak somewhere) which requires a reboot now and then to prevent heavy swapping. The last reboot was a bit too long ago causing a slowdown in map production.

Maybe related …

On 11 January I received the message that my map was being built with current status
<http://osm2.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de/garmin/status.php?id=ab74ea87dc8134cf165d83b1634958c6>
and now it tells me I should have received an email where I did not.

Should I try again?

Thanks for the help in advance,

Ger

There are tons of reasons why the mail hasn’t arrived (spam filters, typo in the address, …)

Queues are empty, so just give it another try.

Cheers!

moin,
i´ve found probs by the downlods for garmin:
oseam_ng_atlantic_equatorial_ms.zip fehlt, is linket with oseam_ng_carribean_ms.zip das ist zwar korrekt aber irreführend, weil beim download die meldung kommt: datei bereits vorhanden. schmeisst die zeile “atlantik äquatorial west” besser raus.
oseam_ng_atlantic_equatorial_ms.zip missing is velinkt with oseam_ng_carribean_ms.zip which is indeed correct but misleading, because the download the message comes: file already exists. throws out the line “atlantic equatorial west” better.

atlantik us nord = us west coast + …ms, bezeichnug ist falsch, us-atlantik ist ostküste
atlantik us nord = us west coast + …ms, description of product is incorrect, us-atlantic is east coast

Hartmut, I’m sorry, but are you sure you’ve got those maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl ?
