It is already done .Pls see the link for more details http://linux.com/feature/125344
I have written a small and simple extension to the operator extension(https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4106) so that whenever you come across a geo encoded microformat page http://microformats.org/wiki/geo page and you want to map it using OSM then you can do so via a click of a button.
You can download the script from http://bhavesh.freeshell.org/blog/worklog/9011.html
Enjoy!!!!!!
I don't think it is necessary because the tigerdata has latitute/longitude info for all US addresses and I would assume that it is just a matter of looking up that info and putting a marker on that lat/long.
Essentially what Im asking for is something of an integration between http://geocoder.us/ and OSM.
Has anyone figured out a way to map a US address on the main home page http://www.openstreetmap.org/
I tried multiple formats like
550 E Remington Dr,Sunnyvale,ca,USA
550 E Remington Dr in 94087
550 E Remington Dr in Sunnyvale
None of these work.Does anyone know the syntax to search for a US address ?
Now I know that I can Punch in the address in geocoder.us and get the latitude/longitude but I want to accomplish this in one step on OSM's website alone. Is this possible ?
For around $50 you can get a GPS mouse.
I have been using it for a couple of years with my laptop and you can get it from ebay , search for GPS mouse and you will find a lot of them in that range. You can get the USB or bluetooth based.
There is a deal at Fry's also for $50. Check it out on http://shop2.frys.com/product/5539850
