#1 Re: users: Australia » Water on land for North Sydney Suburbs on Garmin navigable maps. » 2011-05-12 01:00:47

I'm assuming your talking about the OSM map, perhaps post this as an issue in one of the general forums

#2 Re: users: Australia » J2ME Survey Assistant Application: Testers anyone? » 2010-04-28 23:41:24

perhaps a cross post to the talk-au mailing list  referring to this post might get some attention to the rest of the aussie-osmers.

#3 Re: users: Australia » Tag for identifying NDSS Pharmacies / Outlets? » 2010-04-14 06:01:06

hi, this is probably something best asked on the Q & A part as perhaps its more of a general question

#4 Re: users: Australia » Welcome Australian OSMers » 2010-02-23 22:18:44

FYI I came across this tool to remove duplicate Nodes on the OSM map.

#5 Re: General chat » New smartphone musings » 2010-01-19 04:41:14

I'm in a similar situation with WM, except I have Tomtom, which I would prefer over the "cloud navigation" ie I don't really have access to internet via my plan. ie would be cool to have a good navigation s/w which runs off OSM data.

#6 Re: users: Australia » Perth - Nearmap Aerial Imagery » 2009-12-16 00:01:25

I did see someone mention this last week or two in the OSM blog ..
BTW there seems to be alot of chatter on the "talk-au" mailing list too

#7 Re: users: Australia » Bicycle Parking » 2009-12-03 22:11:12

Personally I think it would be better to tag these specifically with a Bike tag, so people can search for these in future.

I found this Wiki link : http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag: … le_parking

Can you please setup a "predefined map" for "Australia & NZ":

Maps:

Thanks

not entirely sure but you can search on the Wiki or perhaps post the question on one of the more general threads etc..
BTW welcome to OSM fellow cacher..

#10 Re: users: Australia » Welcome Australian OSMers » 2009-06-20 14:59:35

welcome to the OSM forum, good to here about any new data contributed to the Australian maps.

I've updated the start post to contain the answers to these questions. I'm trying to get my new house ready for moving over, so all my OSM projects are on halt during this period.

good luck with the move...

There are a lot of posts in this topic so I guess it's easy to miss stuff wink But yes, searching addresses does not work very well yet. Can you try the methods described in this post?

Would it be easy to create a FAQ or on your website or create a sticky for this here.

#13 Re: Garmin maps » Routable Garmin maps: http://emexes.powweb.com/osm/ » 2009-04-30 23:32:03

perhaps you should close this thread off , as website is no longer active.

#14 Re: Garmin maps » Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl » 2009-04-27 09:04:22

I was wondering if people want to publish a mirror list for each region to ease the bandwidth for your server
eg is you have common requests for updates based on regions they could download weekly and then people would be directed to local mirror

From my opinion you could reduce the space problem, if you either give the user a button "Ready - maps can be deleted on server" or you could automatically remove the maps e.g. 3 hours after the first completed download.

I think it will ok just to reduce time from to 30hrs... 3 hours is too short as I download my file offpeak which is usually 5-8 hrs later.
I think having some "pre-generated" files would reduce the need for some request.

However, what's more important is whether you're allowed to use the overlay to add to OSM. Do you have permission to use it, or is it already under a compatible license?

probably better creating another thread for this , but JOSM can do this ...

#17 Re: users: Australia » keepright now working for Australia » 2009-04-05 10:22:58

thanks , I've fixed up some ways local to me...

#18 Re: Questions and Answers » North pole? » 2009-03-25 22:29:36

I just skimmed the Wikipedia article they more-or-less says there is no exact north pole, so perhaps this is good as any position.  where are you suggesting it be placed?

#19 Re: Garmin maps » Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl » 2009-03-21 01:16:25

btw I assume the Mkmap people know about this coast line problem/bug, or do we need to report it officially?

oh and another request, is it possible to "name" the map so if I download two sets of maps
eg Korea and australia , they would appear separately on Mapsource
So when you build a Map you give it a name  , I assume this can alter the registry entries you create right?
This could also be used in the filename too (I suggest keep the name small eg 10-20 chars

slight problem if I install two maps it looks like second map over rights the first Mapsource ?

so is this by design ie should I get ALL my maps in one shot or can I download two Mapsource install areas?

I'm reluctant to make an exception for Australia because of the way yournavigation routing database and the garmin file generation work. I'm gearing towards full automatic generation of both... Australia would be relatively easy to make an exception for but I assume this problem doesn't occur only in Australia. This should be fixed in the tools (Splitter in this case) rather than try working around it.

ok any idea when I should try again, or what/where to watch for updates?

#22 Re: Garmin maps » Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl » 2009-03-17 23:19:51

something wierd is happening when I combine all of the Australian Tiles and try to view the australia East Coast (near Sydney)
It looks as though the map is cut off or no coast is defined.
Initially i thought it was because I didn't select that tile but after the second time its still there.

hmm on second view its the whole  coast of Australia

#23 Re: Garmin maps » Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl » 2009-03-16 22:30:41

yeap I think its pretty obvious now, thanks,
you might also put what sort of map files it builds eg mapsource, etc...

BTW this is a great resource.

#24 Re: Garmin maps » Worldwide routable Garmin maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl » 2009-03-16 12:42:49

I just have another comment to make it completely obvious,
can you change the "Combine Maps" button to "Build Maps"

and/or add the following on the side bar

1. select map/s (tick box to select multiple)
2. enter email address
3. hit button to build maps

thanks

#25 Re: Development » We need a POI database » 2009-03-15 11:15:48

the main reason is you can search for them and update them by category rather than geographically.
